About Us
Who we are
Our organization, Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP), is a
multi-specialty physician group practice comprised of over 1000 Harvard Medical School (HMS) faculty members from all the major clinical specialties.
Established in 1998 as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, with a
mission to pursue excellence in clinical care, medical education and
research, HMFP provides physician services to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a major Harvard teaching hospital, as well as other hospitals,
outpatient clinics, and urgent care centers in the New England area.
HMFP members include internationally-recognized experts across
all the major academic medical disciplines who occupy key leadership
roles within the academic medical center and HMS. The heads of all
clinical departments at BIDMC, as well as the academic and research
program chiefs at BIDMC (who hold concurrent positions as deans at HMS),
are all HMFP members. In addition, the Dean of Harvard Medical School
and the Dean for Information Technology at Harvard Medical School are
also members of HMFP. As a result, HMFP is ideally positioned to be able
to deliver top-tier expertise, guidance and leadership in the domains
of comprehensive healthcare delivery and medical education system
development.
In addition, academic teaching programs at an undergraduate level
are coordinated closely with Harvard Medical School (HMS). Because of
its structure and relationship to the academic medical centers and the
medical school, HMFP is able to identify and deliver top-notch experts
from the HMS network, as well as from our own international networks;
and to do so in a nimble, fast and efficient manner in order to meet
your project goals.
What is Emergency Medical Consulting?
The Emergency Department of HMFP has been consulting both domestically and internationally for many years. Domestically, in addition to ED consulting, we manage six Emergency Departments in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island which see almost 215,000 patients annually. Managed EDs include: a large academic medical center with a level 1 Trauma Center and a robust EM residency program; three small community hospitals in the Boston metropolitan area; and two large community-based acute care hospitals, one in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and the other in Worcester, Massachusetts. Internationally, we have consulted for major emergency medicine projects in Italy, Denmark, Iceland, Russia, France, and many other countries. We also run a robust Harvard-affiliated Emergency Medicine residency program.
In 2011, we decided to formalize our consulting activities with the
creation of "Emergency Medicine Consulting at Harvard Medical Faculty
Physicians." Our goal is to assist domestic and international healthcare
organizations in creating high quality, efficient emergency care
systems and emergency medicine educational programs. Our mission is to
serve our patients through clinical excellence, our clients through
clinical experience, and to advance the field of emergency medicine
through research and education. Visit our consultant page to learn more about our emergency medicine consultants.
